Thoughts... (on the day we mailed our adoption application) “What I wonder” vs. “What I know…”

What I wonder: “What are you doing today?”
What I know: “God knows every move you make.”
“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.” Psalm 139 1-3 (NIV)

 What I wonder: “Could today have been the most difficult day of your life?”
What I know: “God will make it okay.”
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28 (NLT)

What I wonder: “Are you hungry?”
What I know: “God will provide for you.”
“He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free.” Psalm 146:7 (NIV)

What I wonder: “Are you feeling rejected?”
What I know: “God is always with you, and He will never reject you.”
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35, 37-39 (NIV)

What I wonder: “Are you feeling hopeless?”
What I know: “God is the source of all hope, and I am asking Him to fill you up!”

What I wonder: “Are you in danger and afraid?”
What I know: “God is with you. He will take care of you.”
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

What I wonder: “Do you have anyone to tuck you in tonight?"
What I know: “God will do it, and He will sing over you.”
"The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

What I wonder: “Has anyone ever told you God loves you?”
What I know: “God loves you, and He wants to show you how much.”

What I wonder: “Are you wondering what will become of you - and if anyone even cares?”
What I know: “God cares about you and will sustain you all your life.”

What I wonder: “Can we handle this?”
What I know: “God will give us the wisdom, love, courage and strength we need – as we need it.”
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 (NIV)
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

What I wonder: “Will we be able to give you the love and understanding you need and deserve?”
What I know: “God will show us how…”

When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. What I wonder: “What amazing things does God have planned for you?”
What I know: “God knows His plans – and they are AWESOME!!”

What I wonder: “Will you speak any English?”
What I know: “God is able and will give us the understanding we need.”

“For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:37 (NIV)
(And someday - and for eternity – it won’t matter at all!)

What I wonder: “Will I be able to learn to fix your hair to look cute?”
What I know: “God made you beautiful - no matter how unqualified I am to do your hair!”

What I wonder: “What will God teach us through this, and how will it change our lives?”
What I know: “God’s wonderful plans are beyond our wildest dreams.”
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT)

What I wonder: “What if our plane crashes and our other four become orphans?”
What I know: “God can handle it. He won’t be surprised by it. And he will meet all their needs.”
“Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.” Psalm 68:5-6 (NLT)

What I wonder: “How much does it cost to feed 6 kids?”
What I know: “God owns it all and will provide.”
“I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.” Psalm 50:9-11 (NIV) (That’s a lot of burgers!)

What I wonder: “Can I handle more laundry?”
What I know: “God will help me – and help me do it with a good attitude!”
“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. What I wonder: “How will God pay for this?”
What I know: “We’re stepping out in faithful obedience, therefore we are trusting that He will do it.” (So, I guess "how" doesn’t really matter, now does it?)
